Mavs Struggle at Byrnes

Byrnes is the #1 team in South Carolina AAAA and they looked the part Friday night as they hosted Byrnes on homecoming weekend.  Mauldin failed to get a punt off on their opening possession, setting Byrnes up with great field position early. Isaiah Hill rushed for two 1st quarter touchdowns (16, 65 yards) and Re'jon Scott added a 13 yard score to give the Rebels a 21-0 lead after one.

After Mauldin QB Daniel Bone threw his second interception late in the 1st quarter, Byrnes scored on a 1 yard TD pass on the first play of the 2nd quarter.  Byrnes would add two more rushing touchdowns in the half to take a 42-0 lead into intermission.

Mauldin opened the 2nd half with an onside kick, but the Rebels were ready and recovered.  But, on Byrnes first play of the 2nd half, DE Tony Wideman forced a fumble on a strip sack, which Zeb Sneed scooped up and returned 44 yards to put the Mavs on the board.  The Rebels would bounce back and add two more rushing touchdowns in the 3rd quarter for a 56-7 lead.

Byrnes would add a 72 yard screen pass for a touchdown and a 38 yard interception return for a score in the 4th.  Late in the 4th the Mavs offense finally crossed the goal line as Logan Edwards scored from 5 yards out, the final score of a 70-14 loss for Mauldin.
