Ryan Smith wins Furman XC Invitational!

FURMAN UNIVERSITY—The boys and girls teams competed in the Furman University Gene Mullin Invitational on Saturday, October 11th. Ryan Smith won the boys' varsity race with a time of 16:17. The Mauldin varsity boys’ team was the first place South Carolina team with a team average of 17:44, followed by Greer and Boiling Springs.

Eighth-grader Jake Crow was the second place Mauldin runner (17:46). Freshman Connor Laiewski ran a PR of 18:16. Bailey Rivers beat his time from last year by over two minutes (19:33).


The Mavericks joined about thirty other high school teams from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.  Teams came from as far away as Evans, GA (near Augusta) and James Island, SC (near Charleston). Milton High School XC teams won all of the high school varsity and junior varsity races. The school brought eighty athletes and left half of the team back in Alpharetta, Georgia.


Earlier in the morning, Adam Freudenthal won the men’s college 5k with a time of 14:52. Four college teams took part in the event. Division 1 ranked Furman dominated the men’s race with a score of 19 and a team average of 15:23.

The next race is the Region 2-4A Championships on Wednesday, October 15
th at Dorman High School.
