Lake Murray Invitational

  • Ryan Smith 1st Place

Fast weekend on Certified Lake Murray Course

The Lake Murray Invitational took place Saturday, September 20th at Crooked Creek Park in Chapin. Ryan Smith claimed first place and a 15:39.60 PR by outsprinting Avery Dominick (Dutch Fork) around the grassy field. The winning time was nine seconds shy of the course record (James Quattlebaum, 2013, 15:29.85) and faster than Mauldin’s fastest Lake Murray time (Chad Holt, 2005, 15:52.96).

The varsity boys’ team took fourth-place overall with notable performances by Brayden Leopold (17:01.79), Zach Marion (17:17.10), Matthew Justus (17:28.85), and Scott Sweet (17:48.95). Freshman, Connor Laiewski (18:37.00), ran the fastest JV boys’ time. Sophomore, Bailey Rivers, was close behind (18:49). Additionally, Logan Hunter and Keegan Mazur both took almost two minutes off their best times. Every single JV and varsity runner ran season’s bests yesterday and almost everyone PR’ed!
