Coaches' Classic 2014


Coaches’ Classic was held Saturday, September 13, 2014 in Columbia at the Clemson Sandhills Research Park. The meet is a great opportunity to preview the state course and to size up the competition.

The weather was oppressively hot and humid after an early-morning thunderstorm delayed all of the races by an hour.  The temperature stayed in the 70s and 80s for most of the day with 90% humidity. Varsity and JV runners participated in five separate races (girls’ open (JV), girls’ international (varsity), boys’ international (varsity), boys’ open 7-9th grade (JV), and boys’ open 10th-12th grade(JV)).

BOYS' RESULTS: Ryan Smith earned an 8th place finish overall with a season's best. Other boys with season’s bests (SB) were Braydon Leopold, Scott Sweet, Bailey Rivers, Chandler Taylor, Gabriel Ingmire, and Hunter Stewart.

Hilton Head won the boys' team championship. The boys' varsity team came in 13th place led by Ryan Smith (16:24). The boys' 7th-9th grade JV team placed 12th led by Connor Laiewski (20:03). The boys' 10th-12th grade JV team placed 15th led by Bailey Rivers (20:02).

GIRLS' RESULTS: Mauldin girls with season’s bests (SB) were Emma Driggers, Sarah Feaster, Hannah VanderVeen, Bridget Walsh, Miranda Czapla, Mary Jo West, and Amanda Mahaffey.

Mauldin's girls' varsity team came in 20th place led by Emma Driggers (21:15). The girls' JV team came in 25th place led by Bridget Walsh (23:37). Riverside won the girls' team championship with 48 points.
