Mauldin vs Hillcrest (at HOME)

So what team will appear on the court for this game against Hillcrest… that is the big question…

Mauldin vs JL Mann

Posted in 2013-2014 Varsity Girls Basketball, Team News by JackieMondora

After a terrible loss to Hillcrest, the Lady Mavericks stepped back on the court to face the Lady Patriots of JL Mann. #21 Makayla Green started this game with a hugely confident 3-pointer from the top of the key. The message was clear, “This is going to be a Mauldin Game!” And it was. Also scoring a 3-pointer was #10 La’Daisa Johnson. She also pulled in an offensive rebound and brought it to the top to set up to run a new play. #21 Makayla Green had an assist and made another basket during the quarter. #14 Marshaye Leake had a turn-over but got back in the game to pull-down a tough rebound and put it back up for an easy 2 points! It was only easy because she had a great box-out! #24 Dah’Vielle Lucas scored 3 baskets and had 2 rebounds. #11 scored 2 baskets, 2 assists, a steal and made both free throws after being fouled shooting. Off the bench, #15 Walisha Brown played strong defense against their #10 to make her turn it over twice, and Walisha Brown scored a basket to boot! It was 22 to 6, Mauldin to end the first quarter.

Mauldin vs Hillcrest

Posted in 2013-2014 Varsity Girls Basketball, Team News by JackieMondora

Coming off the strong win against Mann, the Lady Mavericks should have had some confidence. But that was not the case. The Lady Mavericks seemed to be giving the ball to Hillcrest more than they were trying to score. They had at least 7 turn-overs and missed at least 4 easy lay-ups in just the first quarter! If they would have made just half of those lay-ups, that would have added 4 points. Hillcrest took advantage of 2 of the turn-overs, which was more than half of their 1st quarter score. The first quarter ended in a tie, 6 to 6.

Mauldin vs JL Mann

Starting for Mauldin #10 La’Daisha Johnson, #11 Caitland Considine (Captain), #14 Marshaye Leake, #21 Makayla Green, and #24 Dah’Vielle Lucas. The Lady Mavericks were in the mood to shoot the ball. This was a good sign for a Mauldin fan! Plus, the Lady Mavericks were ready to run a bit too! It was a little hard to keep up with them coming out of the gate. A couple of really good runs and assists by Caitlin lead the Lady Mavs to 28 over 18 in the first half. Caitlin had at least 3 assists back-to-back with 2 baskets, making the biggest run in the half. #21 Makayla Green and #24 Dah’Vielle Lucas were rebounding the ball a lot, giving the Mavs lots of second chance opportunities on the offensive boards. Defense wasn’t left off this game either, with the Mavs putting one of their players #12 Khalia Shaw in foul trouble before the half.

Mauldin VS Daniel

Mauldin VS Daniel

November 29, 2013

The Lady Mavericks started play against the ladies from Daniel. It looked like an equally matched team at times, but the Lady Mavericks were not making use of their opportunities when Daniel turned over the ball. The first quarter ended at 9 to 8 Mauldin.

The captain started the game with a foul and the team was misreading plays leading to several turn overs. The ladies from Daniel made use of these opportunities by scoring on most of these mistakes. The first half ended, 15 to 21 for Daniel. This was a very strong quarter for Daniel with several unanswered points.

Come out and enjoy a Basketball Game
