Mavs Shut Out Warriors 33-0

Jason Labrador put the Mavs up 7-0 early and that was all the points the Mavs defense would need as they hounded and pressured Riverside's offense all night.  Logan Edwards would add a rushing TD in the 2nd and Labrador would score his second rushing TD to give the Mavs a 19-0 halftime lead.

In the second half constant pressure from Zeb Sneed, Reese Bartlett, Hunter Hixon and the rest of the Mavs defense kept the Riverside offense in check and out of the end zone.  Labrador would add a third rushing TD and Thomas Stewart would add a score on a night when the Mavs offensive line and rushing attack dominated the Warriors.  Mauldin would go on for a 33-0 win.  The Mavs will travel to Byrnes next week.  Go Mavs!

Jason Labrador got the Mavs ground game going early and Thomas Stewart pounded the Generals late as the Mavs rolled to a 39-6 victory over Wade Hampton.  Labrador scored twice in the first half and Stewart added two scores, including the final score as the Mavs running backs gashed the Generals defense all night.  QB Daniel Bone got in on the running attack when he made a pull read and scored a rushing TD of his own.  Bone also connected with an outstretched Justin Shinko for a passing TD.

While the Mavs offense pounded away at the Generals defense, Zach Starnes and the Mavs defense locked up the line of scrimmage and shut-down the Generals Wing rushing attack.

The JV Mavs will travel to Dorman to face the Cavaliers next Thursday. Go Mavs!

Mavs Hang On 14-12 at Riverside

Mauldin traveled to Riverside for their first road contest of the season and narrowly escaped with a 14-12 victory.  Riverside took the opening kick-off and turned a 3rd and 13 into a 65 yard TD run to take an early 6-0 lead.  The Mavs would answer on their opening possession.  Mitchell Norman would hit Will Groves for 49 yards on a 3rd and 17.  On the next play Norman would find Shawn Livingston for 18 more yards, setting up Norman for a 2 yard TD run.  On the 2-pt attempt, Norman would hit Cam'ron Jackson on a slant for the conversion and what turned out to be the difference in the game.

The Mavs would march their second possession down to the 14 yard line only to be stopped on downs to open the 2nd quarter. Riverside would capitalize by marching 87 yards to take the 12 - 8 lead.  The Mavs would answer when Norman found Cam'ron Jackson for a 26 yard TD strike and the Mavs held a narrow 14-12 lead at the half.

In the 2nd half defense reigned supreme.  The Mavs would eat up almost 6 minutes of clock marching the opening drive down to the one yard line only to have a fumbled snap cost them as they turned the ball over on downs.  Riverside would march to its own 10, before James Snipes fell on an errant pitch for a fumble recovery on 4th and 2 early in the 4th quarter. The Warriors would force a quick punt and return the ball inside their own 20, but the Mavs defense would hold strong forcing negative yards and a 4 and out.  Jake Tribble came up from his corner position to force a 4-yd loss. From there, the Mavs turned to the power running of Cris Paez to melt the clock and seal the victory.  Paez rushed for 55 of his 120 yards on the final possession eating up the final 4:30 off the clock to secure the victory and move the Mavs to 2-0 on the season!

Mitchell Norman went 6 for 9 for 117 yards and a TD passing and added a rushing score.  Plus, Mitchell's 2-pt conversion to Jackson was the difference in the game.  Rahjai WIlson and James Snipes each recorded five tackles.

The Mavs travel to Wade Hampton to face the Generals next Tuesday at 6:00 pm.  Go Mavs!

Mistakes Cost Mavs JV & C-team

Turnovers proved costly to both the Mauldin C-team and JV Thursday night versus TL Hanna.  Starting with the C-team game, an interception on the opening possession set up a short Hanna TD run.  Special teams gaffes added to the Mavs problems as Hanna would go on to win 24-6.  Drequan Harris hooked up with Markel Hill for the Mavs only score.

The script remained pretty much the same for the Mavs JV, who moved the ball up and down the field versus the Yellow Jackets.  Turnovers propelled Hanna to a 24-7 win.  Thomas Stewart rumbled in for the Mavs only score.

Mauldin will regroup as they head to JL Mann on Thursday night. Go Mavs!

Mavs JV Ride Ground Attack/Defense to 41-12 Victory

09/05/2013, 11:00pm EDT
By @MavsMauldin

Mauldin's JV got off to a rough start as they were held to a 3-and-Out early which led to a fumbled punt snap and a Woodmont TD leaving the Mavs down 6-0.  The Mavs defense and ground game would turn things around after that.  The Mavs defense forced 5 turnovers including interceptions by Jon Byram, Zeb Sneed and an INT returned for a TD by DE Tyler Terry.

After the opening series letdown, the Mavs turned to their running attack led by sophomores Jason Labrador and Thomas Stewart to run up and down the field for a 41-12 victory in the Mavs season opener.  The offensive line featuring Matt Lysek, Hugh Bailey, Bradley Steadmon, Ethan Kannenburg, Quintavious Turner and Kenny Martin controlled the line of scrimmage and opened up huge holes for the backs.

Mauldin starts the season 1-0 and will host TL Hanna next Thursday at 7:00 pm.  Go Mavs!
