Mauldin left school early to head to Sumter for a AAAA Division 1 1st round playoff game.  On the way down, the Mavs offensive bus broke down outside of Columbia and the breakdowns continued all night for Mauldin.

After a scoreless 1st quarter that saw very little offensive production from either side, the Mavs finally got on the board with a 15 yard pass from Dre Massey to Beau Craft.  Mauldin would stretch the lead to 14-0 after Massey raced 66 yards for a score.  The Mavs had a chance to almost put the game away after the defense gave the offense great field position on the plus-47 yard line.  However, the offense went 3 and out and Massey took the shotgun snap and pooch punted the ball, which SUmter partially blocked, scooped up and raced 79 yards for a touchdown.  On their next possession the Gamecocks would tie the game on a 56-yd TD run.  Massey's last second heave to CJ Thomas came up 1-yard short of the endzone as time expired in the 1st half.

On the opening kick-off of the 2nd half, Mauldin's big play breakdowens would continue as Sumter got the edge and took the return 80 yards for their first lead of the night 21-14.  On their next possession they would extend the lead to 28-14 to end the 3rd.

Jason Labrador would score from 2 yards out to open the 4th, but Sumter answered with a 25 yard TD pass and held a 35-21 lead.  Mauldin would need to convert two 4th downs, including an improbable 31 yard TD on 4th and 24 to cut the Gamecock lead to 35-27.  Mauldin's defense would hold, giving the Mavs one last shot but Massey's was stripped of the ball trying to make a deep throw as time expired and Sumter returned the loose ball 66 yards for the 41-27 final.

Dre Massey finished his playing career going 35/60 for 325 yards and two TD's.  The 60 attempts and 325 yards are both single game records.  Massey also rushed 21 times for 116 yards, giving him 2043 yards rushing and 34 TD's on the season.  He also threw for 2793 yards and 28 TD's.  An all-time great season!

CJ Thomas finished his Mauldin career with 16 catches for 157 yards and Senior Beau Craft caught three balls for 40 ayrds and a score.

Mauldin finished its record setting season 7-5.  Go Mavs!
