Mauldin vs WH Lady Generals, Jan. 15, 2013

The first quarter started with a lot of good ideas, but a bit of miss execution sent a series of wayward passes and missed connections for our Lady Mavericks. #11 Caitland Considine had two rebounds and went 1 for two from the field, but turned the ball over a couple times trying to create some plays. #12 Kilian Meilinger had a pair of three-pointers. #25 Kentra Washington stole the ball once, pulled in a couple rebounds, a score a bucket for the good guys. But she was called for two fouls early and was replaced by #32 Marshaye Leake. The quarter ended with Mauldin behind by four, 14 to 10 for the Lady Generals.

The second quarter went similar to the first, unfortunately. #25 Kentra Washington had a great quarter and played without a single foul called on her. She had two rebounds with one put back for a bucket and another shot from the fields as well. She also was fouled shooting and made both of the free throws. #13 Julyssa Brown stole the ball with some amazing play. She then rebounded with a put back and later scored another basket. Her speed and intensity are wonderful to watch. #11 Caitland Considine added 2 more to our total. #24 Dah’Vielle Lucas had a rebound too. The final at half was 30 to 22 for Wade Hampton.

The best laid plans of Mice and H.S. Girls basketball coaches… coming out of the locker room, the Lady Mavericks entered the third quarter ready to play and play hard to win. Every girl who got to step on the court and play put a positive mark on the game. #10 La’Daisa Johnson had showed some great dribbling at the point for a short time, but her great hustle and defense gained up the ball on a nice steal. #12 Kilian Meilinger scored one from the field. #13 Julyssa Brown put great pressure on their point guard resulting in a turn-over at least twice.  #11 Caitland Considine scored one shot, got fouled on the next and sank both of her foul shots. #24 Dah’Vielle Lucas pulled in another rebound. And #25 Kentra Washington went 1 for 3, but was fouled hard on that third shot and landed one of her foul shots. The quarter ended with the score 44 to 31 for the visiting team.

Trying to keep us in the game, #12 Kilian Meilinger sank a three-pointer. #11 Caitland Considine took some risky passes trying to get back into the game, but had two turn-overs. She had a fantastic rebound and put back for two. The referees missed the foul on that put back. #23 Taylor Scott was fouled on a shot and made one of her foul shots. #25 Kentra Washington hit the boards for two strong rebounds, she had a steal too that was very nice! #24 Dah’Vielle Lucas fouled out with only 26 seconds left on the clock, but delivered two baskets and one of two foul shots. The final score was 60 to 42 for the other guys.
