The Lady Mavericks greeted their biggest rivals in the second game of the season on Friday November 30, 2012 at 6pm in the Mauldin gym. The Lady Mavericks has a hesitant start with a first quarter plagued with turnovers by both teams. There was early foul trouble for #25 Kentra Washington getting 2 fouls and coming out of the game with 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter. A highlight for the first quarter was #13 who has a basket, a steal and a blocked shot all in under 60 seconds ticking off the clock. It was some real exciting and brilliant play. The quarter ended at 9 – 10 in Hillcrest’s favor.

The second quarter continued to be plagued with fouls and a lot of substitutions. Mauldin had at least 4 turnovers but made a nice run with # 11 Caitland Considine scoring 3 consecutive baskets and a couple pretty assists finishing a strong Mauldin quarter at 26 – 19 Mauldin.

The 3rd quarter showed a little more control of the ball with less turnovers than any other quarter of the game. In fact, some of the best passing in the game came from Mauldin with a few runs down the court with all players putting a hand on the ball and finishing the play with 2 points. #24 Dah’Vielle Lucas has a spurt of play with a blocked shot, 2 baskets and 2 rebounds in about a minute of play. #11 Caitlind Considine also scored a beautiful 3 pointer that was nothing but net. #12 Kilian Meilinger went 2 for 2 with 5 points and also got a nice defensive rebound. The quarter ended 41 – 35 Mauldin.

The 4th quarter was a challenge for Mauldin with a strong run from Hillcrest. Things fell apart as Mauldin tried to hold the lead with a score of 54 to 53 and only 18 seconds to play in the game.

Mauldin had an unfortunate turnover and Hillcrest got the ball and scored. Nothing in the final seconds went Mauldin's way. The final was 57 – 54 Hillcrest.

As a team, our Lady Mavericks kept their chins up and showed great sportsmanship congratulating Hillcrest on their win. While it was a tough loss, it is early in the season and our Lady Mavericks will use this experience to be a better basketball players and a better team. They have learned from this experience and their mistakes, keep those mistakes in the past, and look forward to the rest of the season with confidence.
