MAVS Playoff Run Ends With Tough Loss at Mann

Your MAVS traveled to J. L. Mann as two of the Upstate's strongest teams looked to advance towards the State Boy's Tennis Championships. It was a tense battle with Mann taking a 3-1 lead, but Mauldin closed the gap to 3-2 on the strength of a 6-4, 6-3 win at #2 Doubles. This left two of the Upstate's highest ranked players locked in a ferocious fight at #1 singles. In the end, the MAVS, Alan Pearce, fell just short in his bid to upset J. L. Mann's Parks Schoen, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7. Congratulations to the MAVS on a great season! With only 2 seniors graduating, the future looks bright. Alan Pearce will represent the MAVS and Region 2 at the State Singles Championships and at the North-South All Star Tournament both coming later in May. Good Luck!

Alan Pearce Selected as 4th Seed for State Singles

Coach Lee Taylor announced Monday, 5-7-12, that Senior Alan Pearce was selected as the 4th Seed for the Tennis State Singles Championships being held at the Lexington Tennis Complex on May 18th and May 19th. This is the second year that Alan has been selected for this honor. The following week-end is the North/South Championships being held at the new Kroc Facility in Greenville. Congratulations Alan on receiving both of these selections. Go represent the MAVS well!

MAVS Tennis Victorious in 2nd Round of Playoffs

Your MAVS Tennis Team traveled to Clover on Thursday, 5-3-12, for the second round of the playoffs. When the match was completed, your MAVS boarded the bus for home with a 5-1 victory headed for a third round playoff match against region rival Mann on Tuesday, 5-8-12 at Mann. Come to Mann Tuesday and support your MAVS.

MAVS Oust Undefeated TL Hanna from Play-Offs

Your MAVS Tennis Team traveled to T.L. Hanna on Tues., May 1, for the first round of the Playoffs. T.L. Hanna was undefeated in their region with many of their players going undefeated as well. Tension ran high thru-out the stands as the MAVS fell behind 0 - 2. The MAVS then started a Senior-led rally with wins at #1 Singles (Alan Pearce) & #2 Doubles (Chris Haas & Gavin Stewart). With the match now on the line, spectators were treated to two matches decided in third set tiebreakers. When the players shook hands, your MAVS came out on top 4-2 taking both tiebreakers! Great wins by Ryan Wilson & Andrew Wetzel! Round two of the Playoffs is Thurs., May 3, with the team traveling to Clover High School which is near Rock Hill.

Boy's Tennis has Three Elected to All-Region Team

Coach Lee Taylor announced late Thursday, 4-26-12, that three Tennis players were elected to the All-Region Team for 2012. They are Alan Pearce, #1 Singles & #1 Doubles; Loic Delaby, #3 Singles & #1 Doubles; and Chris Haas, #5 Singles & #2 Doubles. Congratulations to these three players! You have all worked hard and are very deserving.

Boy's Tennis Celebrates Senior Night

Boy's Tennis Celebrated Senior Night defeating Hillcrest on Thursday 4-26-12. Seniors Alan Pearce & Chris Haas led the team to a 7-0 victory by winning their matches at #1, #5 Singles, & #1 Doubles respectively. Both Alan & Chris have been with the team for many years. We wish you luck in your college careers and want you to know that you will be missed.

Senior Alan Pearce Elected to North/South Team

Senior Alan Pearce received word yesterday that he was elected to the Tennis North/South Team. This is an honor that only an elite group of Seniors receive. Alan will represent the Upper State in the North/South Tournament in May. Congratulations Alan! Go represent the MAVS well.

Boy's Tennis 13-6 on Season

The Team traveled to Riverside Tues., 4-24-12. The team fought hard in adverse weather conditions but came up short. Injuries to starting players continue to hamper results. The next match is Thurs., 4-26-12 vs. Hillcrest. This is the last regular season match which is Senior recognition day. Seniors Alan Pearce & Chris Haas will be honored.

This is an important Region match which will determine positioning for the playoffs. Everyone come to Riverside to support the team!

Pizza Inn Fundraiser - Final Total $1,000: The Boy's Tennis Team received their check from Pizza Inn last week. The Owner of Pizza Inn added in a donation bringing the final total to $1,000. The team would like to extend their "thanks" once again to all who came out and for the donation from Pizza Inn.
