Mavs Ram Six Past Hillcrest

The Mavericks travelled to Hillcrest for the third meeting between the teams.  Mauldin aimed to bounce back with a win while The Rams were looking for a record goal for their superstar.  It was Hillcrest that came the closest, the earliest.  Miss Devita sprinted with the ball from her penalty area, the length of the pitch, and in to the Mav’s box.  Sandra Siatkowski picked her up at midfield and shadowed her close until Amanda Martin swept through and tackled the ball clear.  It would be that kind of night for Miss Devita and the Rams.  Mauldin immediately established their control over the middle of the pitch, and the match.  Maggie Cowley, Ragan Hill, Gina Cardenas, Tera Dolan and Emily Praktish were quicker, more aggressive, and worked harder than their counterparts.  Emily bent a nifty ball through the back line for Lauren Young, sending the Ram keeper sprawling and foretelling the evening’s outcome.  After the ball rebounded off Emily’s chin, Ragan took it deep and forced a sloppy save.  The Mavs continued their pressure forcing the Ram keeper to spend a lot of time on the ground.  The breakthrough came from a corner in the 23d minute.  Gina’s service to the back post was neatly headed home by Lauren for her first.  Kathy Jones came close a few minutes later from a corner and Emily hustled to try to tap the effort in.  Emily came close again when she tried to turn Haley Dunham’s cross on frame.  Lauren was on the spot to slot the ball under the keeper for her second.  Emily just missed the upper ninety after she stole a ball on the left and put a good shot to the far post.  The Mavs used the width well, mixing overlapping runs with good combination play.  The Mavs finished the half strong with Emily picking out Lauren down the right where she cut inside and waited for Tori Pilgrim’s run.  She slotted the ball between the centerbacks and Tori’s shot was on frame but saved.

Mauldin was back at it after the restart.  Gina headed long to Lauren on the left and she changed the field.  Emily dispossessed the left back and was taken down from behind for a penalty.  Tera stepped up and sent her spot kick high and left to put the Mavs three clear three minutes into the half.  Two minutes later Maggie threw to Ragan who touched past her mark, cut inside toward the endline and chipped the ball back to Lauren.  With a touch to settle, Lauren coolly slipped the ball under the keeper to complete her hat trick.  The Mav defense stayed composed and disciplined.  Julianna Traurig and Sandra did a great job containing their superstar.  Sandra overlapped and won a throw-in well in Ram territory.  She threw to Meghan Meek who played diagonally through the flat back four and found Haley at the top of the box.  Haley used a touch to get it on her right, then fired a laser to the top right corner leaving the keeper no chance.  In the center the Mavs continued to dominate through Gina’s tackles and Tera’s hustle.  Cameron Clary was solid in back, dispossessing Devita, denying attacks down the left and pushing balls forward.  The Mavs kept applying pressure and generating chances.  Amanda Basabe forced a near post save after her corner was put back across by Meghan.  Madison Scott almost got her head on another corner from Amanda.  With a minute to play, Madison stole a ball and touched it to Brianna Knapp who played it in to Sarah Kate Phillips.  She tracked across the top of the box then cut in toward goal.  Widget fired low and had the keeper beat to the back post but the ball took a deflection and went in at the near post.  Either way it counted even though the scorekeeper refused to put in on the board.  As the final whistle blew, Caitland Considine wrapped up another great night in goal and earned her eighth shutout of the season.
