LADY MAVS TAKE 3RD IN UPWARD CLASSIC
The Mauldin Lady Mavs went 2-1 in the tough Upward Classic tournament at Dorman last week and finished a very proud 3rd. Playing a very strong Bishop McNamara out of Maryland in the opening game our Mavs did the school proud by defeating them 62-56. This team easily won their other two games in the tournament and returned home having only one loss in South Carolina courtesy of the Mauldin Mavericks. Next up the Mavs battled the #4 ranked, undefeated 5A team from Georgia, the very impressive Parkview Panthers. The incredible depth and team speed of Parkview got the best of the Mavs as our girls suffer their first loss of the season 57-45. Next up the Lady Mavs battled the 2010 Upward Champions, Butler High out of the Charlotte area and defeated them 66-50 for 3rd place in the tournament. Morgan Alexander made the all-tournament team for the Lady Mavs. The girls returned home on Tuesday and played Riverside in a region game winning 52-40. Our girls are now 12-1 on the season and 2-0 in the region. Next up we travel to Dorman to play the 11-1 Cavaliers Friday night. Going into this game both teams have only lost to the Parkview Panthers from Georgia. According to Max Preps Dorman is ranked #4 in the state and our Mavs are ranked #6. The Lady Cavaliers have alot of depth and team height and will be very tough to defeat on the campus of Dorman University.

Posted in 2011-2012 Varsity Girls Basketball, Team News by SandyLawsonThe Lady Mavs ventured into downtown Greenville on Friday night and came home with their 4th win of the season with a 57-40 victory over the Lady Raiders. A slow start found the girls down 8-6 after one quarter of play. During the break between quarters Coach Bell fine tuned her machine and the Mavs kicked into gear during the 2nd period to jump ahead 31-16 at the half. This time the Lady Mavs didn't let the girls from Greenville think about coming back on them as they increased the lead to 24 points to end the third quarter up 48-24. Then it was just a matter of playing out the final 8 minutes before the girls from Mauldin could board the bus and head home with their 57-40 victory. Morgan Alexander recorded her 39th career double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Tori Whittenberg dropped in 22 points with 6 threes, including 4 during the 2nd quarter. Posted in 2011-2012 Varsity Girls Basketball, Team News by SandyLawsonLADY MAVS IMPROVE TO 3-0
The Lady Mavs cruised to their third win Tuesday night at home, defeating the Eastside Lady Eagles 57-25. After an ice cold shooting 1st quarter, the Mavs machine kicked into gear and our girls were up 31-11 at halftime. With the engine set on cruise control in the second half the Mavs brought home the victory without any problems. This was the last time the Mavs seniors will play Eastside and they finish their careers 9-0 against the Eagles. Morgan Alexander recorded her 38th career double-double finishing with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Tori Whittenberg dropped in 18 points incuding 4 three pointers. For the second game in a row Caitland Considine tossed in two shots from downtown and had a career high 14 points on the night. Rounding out the scoring was Kentra Washington with 6 and Tiffany Sullivan with 2. Next up our Lady Mavs head into downtown Greenville Friday night to do battle with the scrappy upset minded Lady Raiders. Will someone please make sure they load the Lady Mavs "A" game onto that little bus before it pulls out of Mauldin High on Friday afternoon. The Lady Raiders don't understand that being down 15 points the whole game means your suppose to lose. To borrow a quote from Caitland's dad, "32 minutes girls

LADY MAVS ESCAPE WITH 2ND WIN
Posted in 2011-2012 Varsity Girls Basketball, Team News by SandyLawsonOn Friday in their home opener the Lady Mavs hang on for dear life and hold off the upset minded Lady Raiders from Greenville High, escaping with a 61-58 victory. It was a game the Mavs had under control for three quarters, leading 16-7 after one,31-18 at the half, and 46-34 going into the final 8 minutes. Basketball is a game of runs and the Lady Raiders, with lots of help from 12 Maverick 4th quarter turnovers, went on a major run. Riding the serious momentum swing, Greenville tied the game up 57-57 with 2:39 to play. Give the Lady Mavs credit for finding the heart to pull it together in the final 2:39 and get the win in a game they almost gave away. Morgan Alexander showed up with her 37th career double-double game and got close enough to a 20-20 game to kiss it, finishing the night with 19 points and 18 rebounds. On a night when her shot didn't want to drop Tori Whittenberg had a very rare 10 assist game and added 6 points, 7 steals, 5 rebounds, and 1 thundering 4th quarter blocked shot. Kentra Washington tossed in 14 very important points to go along with 9 rebounds. Caitland Considine added 12 points including 2 baskets from downtown. Raziya Prince had 2 points on a clutch steal and layup in the 4th quarter. Off the bench Tiffany Sullivan had a nice 6 point 4 rebound game. Our Lady Mavs have to get their turnovers in check and cut them in half if they want to be who we think they are. Maybe they are trying to get a seasons worth of turnovers out of their system in the first couple of games. Yes, that's probably it. The Mavs return to the court on Monday night at home hosting Eastside.

LADY MAVS CRUISE TO VICTORY IN FIRST GAME!
Posted in 2011-2012 Varsity Girls Basketball, Team News by SandyLawson
On Tuesday night at Eastside High School the Lady Mavs opened their regular season with a 58 to 39 victory over the Lady Eagles. The first quarter found both teams just getting use to the new season and the Mavs led 11-8 after one quarter of play. During the break between quarters Coach Bell instructed her team to go ahead and give the Lady Eagles a full dose of Lady Mavs basketball for a few minutes. Returning to the court with those instructions in mind the Mavs responded to go on a 17-0 run in just over two minutes. Bing, Bang, Boom, the 2011-2012 Lady Mavs had begun their season! That run grew to 26-0 before the Eagles composed themselves enough to hit a basket and the half ended with the Mavs up 42-13! Coach Bell used much of the second half to get her young varsity players some court time and those ladies finished off the victory at 58-39. Morgan Alexander and Tori Whittenberg both began their senior seasons with double-doubles, Morgan with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Tori with 15 points and 10 steals. Kentra Washington also tossed in 15 points on the night. Raziya Prince played a great floor game at point guard with 5 assists and 3 points on the evening. The rest of the Mavs scoring was Mia Bailey with 4, and Marissa Lysek, Caitland Considine, and La'Daisa Johnson all added 1 point each. Next up For the Lady Mavs is the home opener against Greenville High on Friday night.
