Tennis Team Defeats Riverside, Record 16-2

The Boy's Tennis Team defeated Riverside on 4-26-11 bringing their season record to 16-2.  This win seals their 2nd place finish in the Region.  We also honored our seniors at our last regular season home match.  Graduating this year are Wilson Mathewes, Tyler Chaffee, Tyler Dallas and David Malpica.  You guys WILL BE MISSED!!!

Wilson Mathewes has played for Mauldin for two years at the No. 1 Singles position and in the No. 1 Doubles position with long time partner Alan Pearce.  He has been awarded All Region, Academic All A's, and elected to the State Singles Tournament.  He plans to attend USC-Lancaster where he will continue his tennis career.  Wilson is USC-Lancaster's No. 1 recruit this year.  He will be majoring in Chemical Engineering and stated that he will miss the bonds that he has formed with his team mates over the past two years.

Tyler Chaffee has played for Mauldin for four years.  This year he played the No. 4 Singles position.  Tyler was awarded All Region last year.  He is attending Huntington College where he is majoring in Graphic Design.  Tyler will also be continuing his tennis career in college.  When asked what he will miss most - Tyler stated the "Bus Rides".

Tyler Dallas has played for Mauldin for 3 years.  This year Tyler played in the No. 2 Doubles position with partner Chris Haas.  Tyler plans to attend USC Upstate where he will be majoring in Mechanical Engineering.  Tyler stated that he will miss his teammates and the great food that the parents provide for the matches.

David Malpica has played for Mauldin for 1 year joining the team after moving to this area about a year and a half ago.  David plans to attend Greenville Tech and then is going to transfer to USC Upstate where he will be majoring in Electronic Engineering.  When David was asked what he will miss most, he stated the Food, Bus Rides, and the friendships that were formed being part of the team.  David stated that being new to the school, that the team allowed him to make some really close friends quickly.
