JV Volleyball wins at home
Posted in Headlines by SandyLawsonJV Volleyball Wins Home Match with Boiling Springs
After this weekend's convincing win at the White Knoll Tournament in Lexington, the Lady Mavs JV Volleyball returned home on Tuesday for a matchup against region foe Boiling Springs. The Lady Bulldogs brought some talented players from Spartanburg County but not talented enough to defeat the Lady Mavs as the home team prevailed 25-20 25-23 in two tough sets.
In the first game, both teams came out swinging. But with strong play at the net by Kristina Brown, who led the Mavs in game one with 6 kills and a .667 hitting percentage, Chelsey Scott (4 kills) and Megan Archer (3 kills), the Mavs prevailed 25-20. The strong net play could also be attributed to some fine setting by Kayla Whitten who had a season high 10 assists in game one.
Game two was a bit more of a seesaw affair. The Lady Mavs again came out strong and took a lead midway through the game. But the Bulldogs had some fight left in them and were able to wrestle a 23-21 lead over the Lady Mavs. But there was some fight left in the Mavs as well and when the last Bulldog shot went long, the Mavs had won the last 4 points of the game and the match 25-23. Katie Faith (3 kills), Megan Archer (3 kills) and Kayla Whitten with 7 assists led the Mavs.
Next up for the JV Lady Mavs is a match at Byrnes, Thursday at 5:30.
Regular Season Record 11 WINS and 2 LOSSES.
