North Greenville hires Mauldin alum as softball coach

Staff report

Mauldin High alumna Sarah Hall has been hired as softball coach at North Greenville University.

Hall, who graduated from Mauldin in 2000, spent the past year as an assistant coach at her alma mater. She played at and graduated from Samford (Ala.) University before coaching at a private school in Alabama.

“We are excited to have Sarah as the new softball coach at North Greenville,” athletic director Jan McDonald said. “She is young and will bring new energy to the program.”

Hall replaces McDonald, who served as interim coach last season after the death of coach Buster Sturkey in February 2008.

“I am so excited to be part of North Greenville,” Hall said. “It is so neat to be in a place that truly puts God first in everything they do. I am excited about the team and what God has for us this year.”

Hall said she has high expectations for the team during the 2009-2010 season.

“My goal for this year's team is not only to have a successful season, but for them to truly learn the game of softball and to grow as a team,” she said.

Hall will have seven seniors to work with this season from a team that went 18-18 last season.

Hall's first games will take place in preseason tournaments at Byrnes High School in September and Furman University in October.
