Congratulations on a Great Season!!

Season Over

Tonight ended an extraordinary season for the Lady Mavs softball team.  Mauldin battled Clover down to the last out before finally falling 3-1.

The Mauldin defense was exceptional, making difficult plays and playing error free softball behind Amanda Storch.  Cheyenne Galli led the way with an incredible 7 put outs, while Hannah Pullias made 4 catches in left field.

On offense, Christina Storch provided 2 hits and a home run on a night where hits were hard to come by.  Amanda and Hannah added two hits and one hit respectively.  Even with the slow start the team mustered a 7th inning rally which nearly tied the game.

Clover played a flawless game on both sides of the ball.  However their champion pedigree was truly on display through their conduct and character both during the game and especially afterwards.

The Lady Mavs finished the season an astounding 25-2 including an undefeated regular season, a snowball classic tournament championship, a region championship, and a district playoff championship.

Off Night

On a night of uncharacteristic mistakes the Lady Mavs were outlasted by the Byrnes Lady Rebels and eventually picked up their first loss of the season. The mistakes allowed Byrnes to produce 16 base runners with only 7 hits which resulted finally in four runs and a 4-2 win for the Lady Rebels.

Offensively DeeDee Sullivan and Kaitlyn Wagers each contributed two hits while Christina Storch and Katie Hensonprovided a single each of their own.  The Lady Mavs’ best opportunity came in the 4th inning when the team picked up a walk followed by three straight singles.  However this was followed by three straight infield ground balls ending the inning with Lady Mavs receiving their only two runs.

Defensively Mauldin was led by Cheyenne Galli and Emma Swearingen combining for six assists and 3 put-outs whileHannah Pullias added three left field catches.  Amanda Storch added three strike-outs from the pitching circle.  However the team set season-highs in errors, passed balls, and hit batters – which proved too much for the defense to overcome.

Big Home Softball Game Tonight vs. Byrnes

May 12, 2014

Up StateMent

Tonight (Monday, May 12) Mauldin had a statement win as they downed the powerful Northwestern Trojans 9-4 in tonight’s upstate playoff between two heavyweight softball programs.  The Lady Mavs moved on to the second round of the upstate championship on the shoulders of home runs by DeeDee Sullivan and Emma Swearingen, and a solid pitching performance by Amanda Storch.

The Lady Mavs jumped out to an early lead when hits by Chiara Steffen and Cheyenne Galli combined with a few Northwestern walks/hit batters to load the bases, squeezing two runs across the plate.  DeeDee followed with a base-clearing grand slam giving Mauldin a lead they would never relinquish.  In the 5th inning a double by Hannah Pullias and another hit by Cheyenne set-up a 3-run home run by Emma which put the game out of reach.  The Lady Mavs pounded out 10 hits on the night.

Defensively the Lady Mavs worked hard to contain the powerful Trojans – who only mustered 4 hits but produced 13 base runners on the night.  The left side played flawlessly benefitting from Hannah, Chiara, and Emma each delivering 3 put-outs.  Amanda contributed 8 strikeouts, none more timely than the game’s final two outs which ended a bases-loaded rally by Northwestern.

Next the Lady Mavs look forward to hosting Byrnes at Mauldin High School Tuesday night.

Softball 2014 District Champions!

Upper Cut

By knocking out a high-powered Dorman team, the Lady Mavs won the District IV playoff with an impressive 5-0 shout-out.  As a District playoff champion, Mauldin joins only three other teams to make the cut and battle in the Upstate Playoffs.

Defense again set the tone as Amanda Storch pitched her third consecutive playoff shut-out and fourth overall.  Dorman opened the game with a single.  Twenty-four batters later the Cavaliers would only muster one more hit, no runs, and seven strike-outs against the determined Mauldin defense.

Region Meisters!

The Lady Mavs brought home a region championship by knocking out defending champion Boiling Springs 4-2.  It was an another all-around elite team performance and a very special day for Chiara Steffen who blasted a late, game-tying home run and delivered 3 of the teams 4 RBI’s.

After falling behind 2-0, the Lady Mavs were unable to generate offense early in the contest.  Entering the 5th inning the Lady Bulldog pitching was in control until Hannah Pullias’ single to center field broke up the no-hitter.  She was followed by Chiara who took an 0-1 pitch deep over the left field fence to tie the game and stun the Boiling Springs faithful.  In the 6th inning Amanda Storch drove in the game winning RBI with a triple and some help from Kaitlin Wagers who opened the inning with a double to the left center fence.

That would be all Mauldin needed as Amanda pitched a brilliant game.  The mighty Boiling Springs offense produced only two hits and was again held without an earned run.  In the 7th inning, a lead-off hit and Boiling Springs rally quickly became the inning's first out when Kaitlyn made a precise throw down on an attempted steal of second base.
