(4/14) Mauldin 1 - 1 Dorman

The Mavericks travelled to Dorman to take on the Cavaliers on a firm, bouncy pitch.  The first half was played exclusively between the penalty areas with each team only managing a couple long range shots.  Both teams worked constantly to settle the bouncy ball and try to find a way through their opponent's back line.  The Mavs began the second half with a flurry, keeping the Dorman defense under continuous pressure.  A great opportunity began in the back when Carolyn Sullivan played an excellent long ball out that found its way up the right side and was then played all the way across to the left.  A one-touch cross back across goal forced the Dorman keeper to make a point-blank save at the right post.  Ten minutes into the second half, Dorman took a 40 meter free kick that Carolyn tried to tip over the bar.  Unfortunately the ball found its way under the crossbar for the opening score.  The Mavericks worked hard to find the equalizer and it came in the 57th minute.  The Mavs had worked the ball deep into the Cavalier penalty box and each Dorman clearance was intercepted by a Mav and pushed right back in front of goal.  One of the desparate clearances fell to Allison Rushing who put her foot into the ball from 40 out.  The Cavalier keeper watched the ball sail past high into the left corner of the goal.  Mauldin kept the pressure on trying to find a winner.  Mallory Allen attacked deep on the right and played the ball back to Lauren Cowley waiting inside the spot.  Her effort missed just high of the goal.  Good job girls!

(4/7) Mauldin 5 - 0 Byrnes

The Mavs continued their winning ways by defeating the Byrnes Rebels 5-0.  The girls were agressive from the first whistle and immediately had the Rebel defense on their heels.  Marifer Celis-Villagrana's hustle earned the Mavs a spot kick early in the first half.  The Mavs opened the scoring with a well finished strike by Mallory Allen from a Lauren Cowley pass.  Byrnes' only serious chance of the game came midway through the first half when they picked off a clearance just outside the box.  Carolyn Sullivan came out quickly and stoned the point blank shot.  The Mavericks continued their dominance and put the game away in the second half.  Emily Shuba put a nice ball into the middle and Brooke Sweetenburg provided the finish.  Mallory got her second from an Amy Berglind corner kick.  Emily joined the scoring by stealing the ball from a Rebel and dribbling past two others before placing the ball low past the keeper. Amy closed out the scoring from another well crossed ball by Emily.  The midfield and defense ensured there were no more chances on their own goal and recorded their fourth shutout of the season.  Nice job Mavericks!

(4/5) Mauldin 3 - 1 Boiling Springs

The Mavericks put in a game of Total Soccer this evening against a spry Boiling Springs side.  The girls dominated possession through good challenges, smart touches and accurate passing.  Mallory Allen opened the scoring with a clean finish off a cross from Juliana Traurig.  Juliana added to the scoreline when she intercepted a ball near midfield and wove her way through the defense before slotting the ball home.  Amy Berglind won a challenge deep in the corner and put a strong shot on goal which Mallory Allen tapped in to finish the scoring.  The midfield did a great job of challenging high and early, effectively killing off any Bullodog opportunities.  The defense had another excellent match limiting Boiling Springs to a handful of shots, only a two of which threatened the goal.  One snuck just inside the far post, but on the other, Carolyn Sullivan made a difficult save look easy, parrying the ball clear at full stretch, to secure the win.

(3/31) Mauldin 4 - 0 Hillcrest

The Lady Mavs took on neighboring rival Hillcrest on a cool damp evening.  Save a seven minute lapse midway through the first half, the Mavs thoroughly dominated all aspects of the game.  They opened the scoring in the first half following a free kick outside the box.  A couple Mavs put solid touches on the ball before Jessica Bailey took a ball from Mallory Allen and slotted it home.  The scoring continued in the second half with Brooke Swetenburg netting a brace with both assists from Juliana Traurig.  Tori Pilgrim closed out the scoring from a beautiful setup provided by Marifer Celis-Villagrana.  The Mav defense held a high, tight line limiting the Ram offense to a few long range efforts which were easily handled by Carolyn Sullivan as she got her third shutout of the season.  A great effort tonight that all the girls should be proud of.
