2008 REGION II AAAA “Open Meet”

Tuesday, October 28th

Dorman High School

Race:

This meet is for any Region II AAAA cross country team.  It is a final opportunity for your team to “preview” the course for the upper-state meet, which will also serve as our region’s “region championship” meet.  It will be a final opportunity to help coaches select the ten athletes (seven competitors, and three alternates) they will enter in the upper-state meet on November 1.  THERE IS NO JV DIVISION AT THE UPPER STATE MEET.  You may enter any runner on your roster on Tuesday, including varsity, if you desire.  There are no team awards or individual awards.  Cost is free.

Notes for Region II coaches about the Upper-State Meet on November 1:  The Upper-State meet is on Saturday, November 1st, at Dorman High School.  Regions I, II, and III will all qualify together at Dorman High School.  More information will be sent as we get closer to the date.  The top seven teams in the boy’s race and girl’s race will advance to the state meet on November 8th, at Sandhills.  Region II teams will score the upper-state meet as their region championship with only region II teams (all region I and region III teams will be removed for scoring purposes).  The top ten Region II athletes overall at the upper-state meet will be named to the Region II “all-region” team.

Cross Country JV Ends Season with Personal Bests!

The MAVS JV Cross Country team ended their season today on a high note!  Seniors JD Donoso and Jonathan Panning both set personal records on a tough Dorman course in the cold and wind!  JD Donoso broke the 19:00 mark for the first time in his three years running Cross Country for Coach Howell. Austin Hood also set a personal best and broke the 19:00 mark for the first time all season.  Jeff Wood, Chris Wrobel, Andy Taylor, Robert Fuson also set personal bests.  Chris Wrobel set a personal goal of breaking 20 minutes.  Chris ran a 19:46!  Zach Yordy dropped 34 seconds off his time today!  The story of the day goes to  Chase Small who dropped 43 seconds off his peronal best 5k time.  On the same course last year Chase ran 27:33.  Chase dropped over 5 minutes off his time from last year to run 22:30 today!

In the girls JV race, Catriona Ewing placed 2nd overall with a time of 21:41.  Senior Ellyn Finney ended her XC career at Mauldin with a personal best 5k time of 23:22.  Cheyenne Galli also set a personal best in the race.  Sophomore Kellie Sinkele dropped the most time of any girl on the team today with a 1:31 improvement off her 5k time.  Kellie was also the 5th scorer for the JV team today.  Congratulations to all our JV runners on a great season!   We will miss our seniors that will be leaving us next year, JD Donoso - who will continue his running career in college, Jonathan Panning, Joey Fuson, Ellyn Finney, Casey McCullough, Liz Heaton and Renee Anderson.
