Date: Oct. 02, 2008
Time: 05:30 PM
Location: Byrnes High School

On Thursday night the Lady Mavs JV Volleyball took to the road to take on the Lady Rebels of Byrnes and it took extra points in 2 of the 3 sets to decide a victor.  In the first set the Lady Mavs got off to a very quick start.  Behind the strong serves of Freshmen Emily Cooper, setting of Kayla Whitten and hitting of Katie Faith, the Lady Mavs stormed to a 20-5 lead.  The Lady Rebels made a spirited rally late eventually closing the lead to 22-16 but in the end the Mavs closed out the game 1 with a 25-17 victory.

In game two, the Lady Rebels made some lineup changes and the result worked for the home team.  From the start, this game was a seesaw affair with both teams executing well and keeping the other on their heels.  The Lady Mavs looked like they were going to sweep the match after taking a 24-23 lead late in the game.  Freshmen Laura Woodlee's spike looked like it was going to be the game winner, but the Rebel defense came up strong, dug the spike and won the point to tie the score at 24.  Two strong serves later by the Lady Rebels setter Kristen Dodge and Byrnes took game two 26-24.

Game three was more of the same.  The Lady Rebels came out strong and took a 3-0 lead again on the strentgh of some strong serves.  After a brief exchange of points, the Rebels were up 7-4 until Lady Mav Right Side Hitter Katie Faith served two aces among 6 straight Mav points to give the Mavs a 10-8 lead.  However, the Rebels would not give up and would string together four straight of their own to take a 12-10 lead.  After fighting back to tie at 14 the Mavs would take the next two points, this time the spike by Laura Woodlee at game and match point glanced off the Byrnes defender and a 16-14 Mav Victory.

Incredible Fight and Determination by the Lady Mavs!!  Way to go, girls!!
