MAVS WIN OVER WESTSIDE HIGH: 25-8, 25-13, 25-7

The Lady Mavs Varsity Volleyball team faced Anderson County's Westside Rams Thursday September 4th at MHS, and although Hurricane Hannah was still brewing 400 miles to the East-Southeast in the Atlantic, the Lady Rams ran into a storm less than 40 miles Northeast of the Electric City. Haley Register helped set the tone for the match by reeling off 10 straight service points to start the first game.  Outstanding offensive and defensive teamwork were evident as setters Haley Register and Kimberly Minor  assisted Hitters Rachel Woodlee and Jordan Stovall in recording 4 and 3 kills respectively in game 1.  Defensively, Jordan Bowling contributed 2 strong blocks while Libero Dana Landers and Defensive Specialist Tiffany Smith came up with pairs of Digs for the Lady Mavs in the first game won by the Mavs 25-8.
Game 2 saw our Lady Mavs continue to play well against the outgunned opponents from Westside, but as tribute to Coach Christie Plecha's team's depth and versatility, the results were similar but the names changed as Alex Evans led the frontline with 2 kills and 3 blocks in game 2, while Jordan Bowling exhibited fine defense with 3 digs for the Mauldin Netters. Kimberly Minor added 3 assists and 2 aces in a 10 point service run  in the middle of the second game. Haley Register also chipped in with 4 assists including one each to Heather Granger and Jordan Stovall for big game 2 spikes.  But the feisty Lady Rams from Westside wouldnt quit and made a short and late run near the end of game 2, but when the buzzer sounded it
was Mauldin 25 - Westside 13.
In game 3, Captains Rachel Woodlee and Jordan Bowling re-asserted themselves up front with 2 and 3 more kills respectively.  Register and Woodlee added game 3 Aces for good measure.  Defensively, Morgan Gregg, Woodlee and Granger contributed blocks while Landers and Smith kept rallies alive with another pair of digs each in the third frame.  Miss Register also went on a late 7 point service run that ended one point shy of sealing the match for the Lady Mavs.  Two points later Mauldin completed the rout  25 to 7.
Next up for our Varsity Lady Mav Volleyball team is Rock Hill's Northwestern on Saturday morning at 11:00 am.

The Mauldin Lady Mavs would like welcome new assistant coach Ashley Balough to the team ...and to  send Congratulations and a warm heartfelt "Thank you"  to Marshall Crespin for his outstanding service to all of
Mauldin Athletics as head trainer.  Marshall has been promoted into the Steadman Hawkins Sports and Rehabilitation Clinic firm.  We wish Marshall the best of luck but acknowledge that he will be missed at Mauldin High.
